With history on its side, Bakersfield denies Central High first section football title

Bakersfield, behind senior quarterback Josh Maran, rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit to defeat top-seeded Central 21-14 for the Central Section (California) Divison I football title, the Drillers’ state-record 37th. The Central Grizzlies are 0-for-four in section football finals in the program’s 86-year history.

Game video shows that Central's football team, in the final stages of it's 21-20 upset victory over top-ranked Clovis, had 13 defensive players on the field for five straight plays and 12 for a sixth on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2015. Clovis missed a field goal on the drive, then Central's offense ran out the clock.
