Oakland Raiders sign former Edison High star Tevin McDonald to active roster
Former Edison High star Tevin McDonald was officially promoted to the Oakland Raiders active roster on Saturday.
McDonald spent time on the practice squad after signing as an undrafted free agent in May. He was waived by the Raiders at the end of the preseason after playing in all four of Oakland’s exhibition games.
It’s likely McDonald will be active for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. at O.co Coliseum.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder played in 50 games combined at Eastern Washington (2013-14) and UCLA (2011-12), recording 256 tackles (180 solo), eight interceptions, 31 passes defensed, one sack, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries over his collegiate career with the Bruins and Eagles.
The Raiders will be without safety Nate Allen, who was placed on injured reserve/designated to return after sustaining a knee injury during last week’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. In addition, safety Charles Woodson was limited in practice the past two days with a dislocated shoulder.
McDonald joins older brother T.J. McDonald on an active NFL roster. T.J. McDonald is in his third season with the St. Louis Rams. Their father, Tim McDonald, played 13 seasons and was selected to six Pro Bowls, including five straight from 1991-95, and was named All-Pro six times. T.J. and Tevin were coached at Edison by Tim, who also was a former star football player at the high school.
