Giannis Antetokounmpo Sends Strong Message Ahead of Bucks' Trade to Heat

Giannis Antetokounmpo is on the move after a blockbuster trade was reported by various outlets late on Monday night.

The deal sends Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap and one second-rounder, according to ESPN.

Hours before the trade revealed, Antetokounmpo took to X to send a strong message.

“GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout,” he posted at 5:56 p.m. on Monday.

The superstar forward clearly knew what was coming ahead of time and he appears ready to move on to the next phase of his career. Antetokounmpo previously helped guide the Bucks to their second NBA Finals win in franchise history in 2021, but friction between the two sides had been growing for quite some time leading up to the move that sends him to South Beach.

The 13-year-veteran has earned two MVP awards throughout his illustrious career, which has included a Defensive Player of the Year award and has been named to the All-NBA first-team each of the past seven seasons. He is coming off a 2025-26 campaign in which he recorded 27.6 points per game. He had averaged at least 30.4 points per game for the three previous seasons.

Antetokounmpo may join Heat star Bam Adebayo and guard Norman Powell to form Miami’s new top triumvirate, that is if the team elects to re-sign Powell in free agency. Adebayo averaged 20.1 points per game last season, including an 83-point effort during a March 11 matchup with the Bucks. Powell, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, netted a team-high 21.7 points per game this past year as the Heat finished 43-39, missing the playoffs.

Last season was a disaster for the Bucks, who finished 32-50 as Antetokounmpo was limited to just 36 games, the fewest of any season in his career. He averaged 28.9 minutes per contest, the lowest mark since his rookie season.

Antetokounmpo will look to turn things around and get his career back on a winning track with his move to Miami, which last claimed a championship in 2013.
