Kansas City Chiefs 2026 Training Camp Position Battle to Watch

NFL teams have wrapped up their respective organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps, and after a near month-long break, they'll pick things back up near the end of July for training camp.

The first preseason game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC when the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals face off in the Hall of Fame Game. The rest of the preseason's first week will take place from Aug. 13-15, followed by Week 2 on Aug. 20-23, and Week 3 on Aug. 27-29.

But before the preseason gets underway, teams must first report to training camp. The Kansas City Chiefs report for training camp on July 29, and below is their biggest position battle to watch this summer.

Position Battle: Right tackle | Jaylon Moore vs. Esa Pole vs. Khalil Benson

With Jawaan Taylor now playing for the Atlanta Falcons, the Chiefs need a new right-side protector for Patrick Mahomes.

Jaylon Moore (132 snaps) and Chukwuebuka Godrick (186 snaps) split time backing up Taylor at RT last season. Moore also played some at left tackle too (283 snaps), making him the natural frontrunner to start in Week 1.

However, Pole had a solid showing last year and Chiefs coaches seem high on his potential.

The 6-foot-7, 319-pounder played 75 snaps at left tackle last year, allowing just one sack 15 pressures, and 10 hurries. If Moore shows any signs of struggle, the team could have a quick trigger to throw Pole in if he doesn't outright win the job.

Benson has experience playing three of the five positions on the offensive line. In three seasons at Indiana and one at Colorado, he racked up 1,653 snaps at right tackle, 967 at right guard, and 42 at left guard.

He gave up nine sacks and allowed 90 pressures and 69 hurries in that span. It's unlikely he wins the job, but he could be a valuable depth tackle during the season.
