Padres minors: Matt Waldron makes another rehab start, Ethan Salas (oblique) to injured list

Matt Waldron gave up a run in the Pacific Coast League.

It's the only run the knuckleballer has given up so far in the minors this year.

Rehabbing a brachialis strain, Waldron allowed a run in three innings in Triple-A El Paso's 14-1 win over visiting Reno on Friday.

Waldron (0.52 ERA) struck out, walked one and allowed three hits, including a solo homer to Diamondbacks prospect Ryan Waldschmidt.

Between this rehab assignment (two starts) and the one he was on to start the year, Waldron has allowed one run in 17 ⅓ innings so far at Triple-A El Paso. He had an 8.49 ERA in 23⅓ innings in the majors before requiring a second stint on the injured list.

Right-hander Sean Boyle (6-4, 5.84 ERA) struck out three over three scoreless innings in relief for the win.

Center fielder Carlos Rodriguez (.763 OPS) drove in four runs on three hits, including his second homer.

Shortstop Mason McCoy (.834 OPS) went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, three runs scored and his 16th steal.

First baseman Nick Pratto (.811 OPS) and third baseman Clay Dungan (.755 OPS) both drove in two runs on two hits, including a double.

El Paso is 34-39.

Salas sidelined

Catcher Ethan Salas was placed on Double-A San Antonio’s seven-day injured list on Saturday with a minor tweaked oblique. Salas had been out of the lineup on Thursday and Friday.

Ranked No. 48 in MLB.com's top-100 prospects list, the 20-year-old Salas is hitting .282/.352/.432 with seven homers, 33 RBIs and 13 steals in 56 games at Double-A San Antonio.

Salas had cooled considerably in June (.503 OPS) after posting an .883 OPS in April and a .849 OPS in May.
