210 fall athletes to watch over 70 days
Hallie Crabbe, Carmel volleyball: Following in the footsteps of her mom and two older sisters as defensive demons, Crabbe will begin her fourth season as a defensive specialist for the Padres.
A member of The Herald's All-County team, Crabbe is fearless in going to the ground to dig up balls, igniting an offense. She's also among the Padres top servers.
Chris Wing, Salinas cross country: Emerging last season for the Cowboys, Wing finished as the team’s No. 2 runner at the Gabilan Division championships.
The team’s top returning runner, Wing will look to dip under 16 minutes over the 3.01-mile Toro Park course, having finished eighth in the Gabilan Division finals last fall.
Jaylen Ward, Alvarez football: A versatile two-way starter that has gathered attention from numerous colleges, Ward will be a game changer for the Eagles as a receiver/defensive back.
As dominant of a run team as Alvarez was last year, Ward still caught 30 passes, averaging 20 yards a catch. Defensively, he recorded 82 tackles and intercepted four passes.
