Former NFL Star Jarvis Landry Is Urging Brandon Aiyuk To Get Help
Have we seen the last of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the NFL?
In 2023, Aiyuk proved he's a legitimate No. 1 wideout by hauling in 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, we haven't seen him on the field since he suffered a torn ACL on Oct. 20, 2024.
During the 2025 season, Aiyuk had $27 million in guarantees voided from his contract because he failed to meet certain requirements for the 49ers. Although he wants out of the Bay Area, his request has not yet been granted. He voiced his frustration with San Francisco's front office during a recent social media rant.
"And another thing. You want to know why they really mad, though? They mad 'cause they stupid. They dumb," Aiyuk said. "They mad that they paid me $50 million in eight months and then voided my guarantees for 2027. And I'm about to be on a new team in 2027. They mad at themselves for real. They acting like they mad at me, but they stupid ass mad at themselves."
Not only has Aiyuk gone on social media rants, he's made headlines this month because the Santa Clara County (Calif.) District Attorney's Office issued a warrant for his arrest.
Former NFL wide receiver Jarvis Landry discussed Aiyuk's antics on the "4th and South" podcast. The five-time Pro Bowler admit that he's genuinely worried about Aiyuk's recent outbursts.
"Man, somebody needs to get that phone from him," Landry said. "Where I see him at today, based on where I saw him two years ago, it's not the same Brandon that I know. It's not the same player, not the same man that I respected for how he played the game."
Landry believes Aiyuk's antics could prevent him from landing on another NFL team.
"Some people say any publicity is good publicity, but I feel like, as an organization, if I'm even considering bringing a guy like Brandon Aiyuk in, and I see the type of posts that he's been posting, I don't really know if he really even wants to play football like that," Landry continued. "I don't really know if I want to bring someone like that into my organization. You're a veteran in the league at this point. You're a leader when you walk into a locker room."
Would any team want Aiyuk?
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier this offseason that Aiyuk would be an interesting fit for the Washington Commanders.
"I think they will be holding onto him to see if there's any trade value at all. Washington does make a lot of sense," Schefter said. "He played with Jayden Daniels in college. They're very close. I'm sure Jayden would love to play again with Brandon Aiyuk, but I don't get the sense that the 49ers are in any rush to move on from Brandon Aiyuk even though we know eventually they will."
Interestingly enough, Aiyuk recently posted a photo of him wearing a Commanders hat on his Instagram account. Who knows? Maybe a trade will go down soon.
