Victor Wembanyama Breaks Silence on Knicks Fan Behavior After Egg Incident

The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a disastrous collapse in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, as the New York Knicks overcame a 29-point deficit and beat the visitors, 107-106 at Madison Square Garden.

And even after fans saw their team make history and go up 3-1 on the Spurs, there were some individuals who partook in unnecessary behavior following Game 4.

That included attacking select fans rioting, wearing Spurs jerseys, and throwing objects at big man Victor Wembanyama while he was outdoors in New York City.

A video emerged of Wemby leaving to go to the hotel as fans cursed and heckled him. A small object hit him, which many claimed was an egg thrown by a fan at the Spurs star.

“I mean, I didn’t really think much of it,” Wemby told reporters during a Spurs media session Friday. “I just saw the one video of the eggs. I didn’t see any other ones, but it’s Ok.”

“It’s not good at all, but doesn’t bother me,” he said regarding the recent incidents.

Wemby drew scrutiny and criticism after his aggressive shove on the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson wasn’t called a flagrant foul after the referees reviewed it during the game or the league reviewed it postgame. However, there’s no excuse for throwing objects at opposing teams’ players, rioting, or attacking other fans at any time.

Another unnecessary fan incident mentioned to Wemby involved the Spurs’ bus. Knicks fans reportedly surrounded the vehicle, raising additional concerns about the players’ well-being while in New York City.

Along with those, there were reports of fans rioting after wins or losses, and attacking fans outside who wore Spurs jerseys.

The teams have several days off between games, as they traveled to reach San Antonio, where there hasn’t been much, if any, mention of incidents involving Spurs fans and Knicks fans.

Wemby seems to be maintaining a levelheaded approach heading into the next meeting, which is now a must-win game for the Spurs. Should they give up another loss to the Knicks, it will be the end of the NBA Finals for this young Spurs team and a massive championship for New York.

Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs arrives on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
