Victor Wembanyama Addresses Playing With De'Aaron Fox After Two Losses

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs find themselves in a difficult spot after losing the first two games against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. As they look for answers, another key player who can come to the Spurs' rescue is De'Aaron Fox.

While the former Sacramento Kings star is only 28 years old, he is already considered a veteran within the young Spurs starting lineup. Ahead of Game 3, Wemby praised his teammate for the impact he has made since arriving in San Antonio.

"It's been great," Wembanyama said during the media availability. "I think it's been saving us a lot of trouble over the course of the season." The 22-year-old highlighted how Fox's nine years in the NBA could be beneficial for other Spurs players who wish to learn from him.

Wemby added, "He's the experienced guy that we've always been able to turn to when we need it, especially I think it's easy to forget that our guards are really young, and how precious he's been for them." Fox joined the Spurs during their transitional period.

The former Kings star was acquired during the 2024-25 season, along with Jordan McLaughlin, in a three-team deal involving the Chicago Bulls. In exchange, Sacramento received Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks, and two second-round picks. The Spurs sent Zach Collins, Tre Jones, and a 2025 first-round pick to Chicago, while the Bulls also received Kevin Huerter from the Kings.

The move immediately transformed San Antonio's backcourt as Wembanyama began to find his rhythm in the league after being drafted in 2023. With the reputation of being one of the league's fastest and most dynamic guards, Fox quickly developed chemistry with Wembanyama that has been quite visible during the Spurs' road to the NBA Finals.

Fox earned the second NBA All-Star selection of his career this season. He averaged 18.6 points per game during the regular season, ranking second on the team behind Wembanyama. His scoring, playmaking, and veteran experience helped accelerate the Spurs' rise from a rebuilding franchise to a Finals contender.

Even in defeat, Fox has continued to deliver for the Spurs. After a disappointing performance in the first game of the series, he scored 20 points in Game 2 while supporting Wemby, who scored 29 points. However, San Antonio still came up short in a heartbreaking 105-104 loss to the Knicks.

Now, with the series moving to Madison Square Garden, the Spurs will need both Wembanyama and Fox at their best. If San Antonio hopes to climb back into the Finals, their star partnership may be the team's most important weapon.
