Valkyries add former Stanford star to frontcourt mix
The Golden State Valkyries added a familiar name to their frontcourt mix on Sunday morning, signing former Stanford center Nadia Fingall to a rest-of-season contract.
To make room for Fingall, 27, the Valkyries waived forward Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, the team announced.
Fingall appeared in 115 games with the Cardinal from 2016-20, averaging 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor. As a senior, she was named Pac-12 All-Defensive Team Honorable Mention and was second on the Cardinal with a career-high 5.7 rebounds per game. Fingall is the second former Cardinal signed by the Valkyries in recent weeks. Ashten Prechtel, a Stanford freshman when Fignall was a senior, joined the team on an injury hardship contract in early May and after that expired, signed a player development contract.
Fingall, a 6-foot-4 center, played for Valencia in Spain from 2023-2025, leading her team to two Liga Femenina de Baloncensto titles and two Supercopa de España championships. She was the Supercopa de España tournament MVP in 2024.
The New Jersey native most recently played for Casademont Zaragoza where she averaged 8.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and a 44.7 field goal percentage in 19 games.
Fingall joins the second-year Valkyries in the midst of the Commissioner’s Cup tournament. Golden State (6-5) has lost consecutive games for the first time this season heading into Thursday’s home game against the Phoenix Mercury (4-8).
— Mwenentanda, a rookie guard out of Vanderbilt, appeared in five games for a total of 13 minutes for the Valkyries. She had two rebounds and two assists, and missed her only shot attempt.
