Bulldogs lose NorCal regional opener at Skyline
The Los Molinos varsity baseball team lost its opening-round game in the NorCal Regionals on Tuesday, 5-1, to Skyline. With the loss, the Bulldogs finished the season with a 23-6 record.
The Titans scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second off a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and two ground outs.
The Titans expanded their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third on a two-run double that came after a walk, a single, and an error started the inning. Later in the inning, a sacrifice bunt scored the Titans' 4th run to make the lead 4-0.
The Bulldogs tried to get on the board in the top of the 4th inning.
Following a pair of walks, the Bulldogs were caught sealing home to end the threat. The Titans extended their lead to 5-0. After one out on an Error walk and an RBI single. But pitcher Clayton Reimer was able to get out of the inning by striking out two consecutive hitters.
At the top of the 6th, the Bulldogs got on the board with a solo home run by Wyatt Gillett to left field. It was his team-high second home run of the season.
The Bulldogs collected six hits on the day, one each by senior Parker Heitman, junior Kyson Button, sophomore Brody Fimea, and seniors Dakota DeMarco and Reimer.
Reimer pitched five innings, gave up four hits, five runs, all earned, walked six, and struck out seven. Fimea pitched one inning, allowed just one walk, and one strikeout.
The Bulldogs will be saying goodbye to 10 seniors who won consecutive Northern Section championships and ended their high school careers in Los Molinos.
Skyline will now move on to take on the number two seed, Pacific Grove, in the Division V NorCal regionals
