Jared Verse's Immediate Reaction to Being Traded to Browns for Myles Garrett
The Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world when they pulled off the football equivalent of the Luka Doncic trade that rocked the NBA last season.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams and Cleveland Browns agreed to a blockbuster trade that sent two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garett to Los Angeles in exchange for former first-round defensive end Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, and additional draft compensation.
Now, Verse, a Dayton, Ohio, native has the tough task of replacing a legend and taking over as the team's top pass-rusher. Shortly after the trade details were announced, Verse took to social media to share his gratitude for the two seasons he spent with the Rams.
"Thank you for everything LA 💙💛," Verse posted on his Instagram story.
Easton Butler of Packer Report stated late Sunday night that the Rams were planning to make an aggressive move for Garrett. Less than 24 hours later, a deal was agreed upon.
But according to Schefter, L.A. had been eyeing Garrett for months before finally pulling the trigger on a deal.
"The Rams began pursuing Myles Garrett, they kept pursuing Myles Garrett, they didn't stop pursuing Myles Garrett until they were eventually willing to include Jared Verse in the trade,” Schefter stated on the “Pat McAfee Show.” “Once Jared verse got included in the trade, the Browns were interested - ‘OK, we get a player now or the short-term, and we get draft pick compensation, including a first-round draft pick in '27; that we can live with.'"
While there's only one Myles Garrett, Verse isn't a bad consolation prize.
The 24-year-old former first-round pick was tied for the second-most pressures (100) among edge-rushers in the NFL last season, behind only Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans (102).
Verse also led all edge-rushers in QB hits (27) and ranked third in hurries (64), while logging 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and a 16.1 pass-rush win-rate, per Pro Football Focus.
Offloading Garrett allows the Browns to get younger, cheaper, and add several picks to build for the future while still fielding a solid pass-rush led by Verse.
