Who Will Be the Next Liverpool Manager? Arne Slot Replacements Revealed
Liverpool have confirmed that Arne Slot has left the club with immediate effect, bringing an end to his two-year spell at Anfield.
The decision comes after a difficult 2025-26 season in which Liverpool failed to challenge for the Premier League title and struggled for consistency across competitions.
Reports on Saturday stated that the club had already started the process of finding a new head coach.
Slot arrived at Liverpool in 2024 following the departure of Jurgen Klopp and made an immediate impact. In his first season, he guided the Reds to the Premier League title, securing Liverpool's 20th English league championship and becoming the first Dutch manager to win the competition.
Things changed quickly this season. Liverpool were unable to maintain the standards they had set a year earlier and finished outside the title race. The team spent much of the campaign battling for European qualification rather than competing for the championship. The club eventually decided that a change was needed ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The club released a statement announcing Slot's exit.
"That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful."
"As such, our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field." it read.
The statement also noted that the club believes there needs to be change in direction.
"Nevertheless, the conclusion we have come to is built on a belief that the team's trajectory is best addressed through a change of direction. That does not diminish the work Arne has done here, or the respect we have for him. Nor is it a reflection of his talents. Rather, it is indicative of the need for a different approach.
Will Oliver Glasner Join Liverpool After Arne Slot Sack?
The strongest name linked with the job at the moment is Andoni Iraola. The Spanish coach earned praise for his work at Bournemouth and is now being widely reported as the leading candidate to take over at Anfield.
Several reports on Saturday described him as the favourite for the position following Slot's departure.
Although Iraola is considered one of the top candidates, another manager who has been mentioned in recent discussions is Oliver Glasner.
Glasner has led Crystal Palace to three consecutive titles, including their first-ever major silverware and European glory, and guided Eintracht Frankfurt to a prestigious continental title earlier.
The Austrian coach has continued to build his reputation in England after impressive work with Crystal Palace. Glasner has also been linked with AC Milan in recent weeks, meaning Liverpool could face competition if they decide to pursue him.
His attacking approach and experience in European football make him an attractive option for clubs looking for a fresh direction.
