Former UFC contender to headline Fight Night V in San Jose as Coker launches new MMA league

Recently announced San Jose-based mixed martial arts promotion Fight Night will be holding its fifth event on June 13 at Tech CU Arena, headlined by former UFC bantamweight contender Jessica-Rose Clark, the Bay Area News Group has learned.

Rose-Clark's opponent will be announced in the coming weeks.

The main and undercard fights will have multiple local up-and-comers, including San Francisco's Jordan Luo (9-1). Luo will be fighting Michael Bueno (2-2) out of San Lorenzo.

"The Bay Area has been an undeniable hotbed for mixed martial arts for decades," Fight Night spokesperson and former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez said in a release. "Fight Night V: San Jose is another benchmark for our mission of identifying stars in Northern California. Between the professional and amateur bouts we have slated, fans will have the opportunity to witness seasoned veterans and future stars in the making compete."

Rounding out the local talent will be East Palo Alto native Hector Fajardo, who will be fighting ex-UFC bantamweight Andre Soukhamthath in a featherweight kickboxing match. Half Moon Bay's Fernando Diaz-Marquez, Hercules' Chris Fernandez and Antioch's James Guidry will also appear on the card.

San Jose native Cung Le Jr. (1-1) will be fighting Joshua Gomez (3-2). Le is the son of MMA pioneer Cung Le Sr., who was a knockout artist in the UFC and Strikeforce.

Fight Night is a local promotion led by Melendez – a former San Francisco State wrestler – and longtime MMA promoter Scott Coker. Coker, who was involved with the founding of Strikeforce and Bellator promotions, recently announced that he is launching a global MMA league with $60 million in financing.

"I always knew I wanted to come back when the time was right, with the right vision and a carefully curated team. That time is now," Coker said in a release announcing the league earlier this month.

Tickets for the event will be available on Ticketmaster. The preliminary card will begin at 5 p.m.
