Harvey named MVP as All-League softball teams announced

The Chico High School softball team won its first Eastern Athletic League title since 2019, and finished runner up in the Northern Section Division II championship.

All-League selections have been announced, and Chico pitcher McKena Harvey was named the Eastern Athletic League MVP as voted on by coaches in the Northern Section.

Harvey finished with a .602 batting average, with six home runs, five triples, 16 doubles, 13 walks, zero strikeouts, 32 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. In the circle Harvey was 11-2 with a 1.83 earned run average, striking out 136 batters in 84 1/3 innings.

Harvey was joined on the All-League list with teammates Leah Cawthon, Camile Murphy, Kai Peterson, as well as Honorable Mention listing Addi Hosier.

Another standout on the EAL All-League list was Pleasant Valley's Lily Thurman, who set a new home record for the Vikings' program. Thurman finished with a .536 batting average, had 16 home runs, 11 doubles and 60 RBIs. Thurman is joined by teammates Rylie Bumgarner and Holly Baxter, as well as Honorable Mention selection Sofia Bowersox.

NSCIF D-II champion Las Plumas' Brooklyn Atteberry was named the Westside League MVP, and NSCIF D-III champion West Valley's Aubree Wertz was named Northern Athletic League MVP.

Atteberry, a sophomore, had a .511 batting average with 11 home runs, four triples, eight doubles, 22 walks, three strikeouts and 47 RBIs while catching for the Thunderbirds.

East Nicolaus won the NSCIF D-V championship, and the Spartans' Kylah Glenn was named Sacramento Valley League MVP.

Other MVPs included Kaylee Lenear from Mt. Shasta in the Shasta Cascade League, Jemma Trueblood from Quincy in the Mid-Valley League, Addison Jones from Los Molinos in the Five Star League, and Cate Peterson from Loyalton in the Evergreen League.

Durham, the NSCIF D-IV champion, had pitcher Annalee Horn get selected as an All-League selection in the Sacramento Valley League. Horn joins her brother Tanner Horn, a baseball player for Chico High School, as siblings both making All-League teams in their respective sports.
