Tommy Edman's Return Could Be Bad News For One Dodgers Player

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Tommy Edman is close to making his long-awaited return.

Edman began the season on the injured list as he recovered from offseason ankle surgery. The Dodgers have been cautious with Edman as the team has slow-played the recovery process for the 31-year-old.

He was plagued by ankle issues throughout the 2025 season and the Dodgers are hoping Edman returns fully healthy once he rejoins the big league team.

On Tuesday, Edman is set to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He is set to bat second and play second base in his first game with OKC, per insider Alex Freedman.

Manager Dave Roberts revealed he plans on utilizing Edman mostly at second base upon his return, which isn't particularly good news for Hyeseong Kim.

"We'll probably max him out," Roberts said of the length of Edman's rehab assignment. "When Tommy comes back, we're gonna have to make a move."

While the Dodgers haven't confirmed what the roster move will be in order to activate Edman, Kim's future hangs in the balance.

The former KBO star was already in consideration to be demoted ahead of Monday's series opener against the Colorado Rockies. With Kiké Hernandez being reinstated from the injured list, Kim was a candidate to lose his roster spot.

Instead, the Dodgers chose to designate Santiago Espinal for assignment to make space for Hernandez on the roster.

Edman is set to take over everyday duties at second base with Miguel Rojas a viable replacement for when he needs days off. Kim, who is hitting .257 with a .652 OPS, is very much in jeopardy of being sent down to the minors.
