Steelers Worst Move of Offseason Is Continued Problem
The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal ahead of the 2026 season.
ESPN named it the worst move the team has made this offseason. In a new article, the Worldwide Leader looked at the best and worst move from every AFC team and suggested the “continued handling of the quarterback situation” is plaguing Pittsburgh’s future.
“On the veteran side, the Steelers gave Aaron Rodgers halfway through May to decide on his future before re-signing the legendary quarterback to a one-year deal, reportedly giving him a big raise in the process,” ESPN wrote.

“They weren’t competitive with other veteran quarterbacks, including Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins and Joe Flacco, all of whom might project to be better than Rodgers in 2026. Since winning his fourth MVP award in 2021, Rodgers has ranked 26th, 25th and 23rd in Total QBR across his three subsequent healthy seasons,” ESPN continued.
ESPN noted the lack of a true quarterback of the future, though the Steelers have spent draft picks on former Ohio State star Will Howard and Penn State standout Drew Allar, who was the team’s third round pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
The team also has quality veteran backup Mason Rudolph on the roster, but it’s unclear if Pittsburgh will be willing to carry four quarterbacks on the roster this season.
