Brock Purdy: 49ers ‘have what it takes to go all the way and win it'

Brock Purdy isn't bashful about the 49ers' potential.

"Obviously, we have what it takes to go all the way and win it, that's when we're at full strength and good to go," Purdy said Wednesday night at the annual Dwight Clark Legacy Series, benefitting 49ers alumni.

"But even though we are at full strength and full health, that's not guaranteed," Purdy added. "That's the cool thing about the guys we have in the locker room and organization: No one just sits there and says, ‘Oh, look at our roster and how beautiful it looks.'"

Purdy and the 49ers are a month into their voluntary offseason program. Organized team activities start next week. The hunt is on to dethrone NFC West rival Seattle and win the 49ers' first Super Bowl since the 1994 season – when Purdy was 4 years old.

"Guys are ready to go," Purdy continued in his interview with NBC Sports Bay Area's Laura Britt on the Hammer Theatre stage. "When it's said and done, we want to come back like all these guys and have rings on our fingers and celebrate those key wins and moments with the history of 49ers. That's what's on our mind so we have to go do it."

The 49ers overcame injuries, including Purdy's eight-game hiatus with turf toe, to vie for the NFC's No. 1 seed up until a regular-season home loss to Seattle, which they rebounded from to upset Philadelphia in the wild-card round. Then came a divisional-round blowout loss in Seattle, and the Seahawks went on to win Super Bowl LX over New England at Levi's Stadium, where they celebrated in the 49ers' own locker room.

Said Purdy: “Last year doesn't matter. The years before don't matter. What matters is where we're at and where our feet are at. We're going to go all-in for each other and you guys. So appreciate you guys and love you.”

WEEK 1 PREVIEW

Purdy didn't frown on starting this coming season in Melbourne, Australia, where they'll face the Los Angeles Rams (5:35 p.m. PT on Sept. 10; 10:35 a.m. AEST on Sept. 11).

"Obviously, it is far, but all the guys are excited in terms of going to play an NFL game in Australia," Purdy said. "It's never been done before. It's nice that it's the first game of the year. So we get to finish training camp, then head out there and get acclimated."

The 49ers are expected to arrive almost a week before that regular-season opener, kicking off a 38,000-mile flight plan this season. Purdy's plan is to "start off the season strong with a win in Australia, create more fans across the world, some more Faithful, so it's going to be fun."

WIDE RECEIVER SHAKEUP

Purdy is enthusiastic about a receiving corps that's replaced Jauan Jennings (Vikings), Deebo Samuel (free agent) and Brandon Aiyuk, who left the team last October and is expected to be released if not traded by summer's end.

Bucs all-time leading receiver Mike Evans, journeyman Christian Kirk and second-round pick De'Zhaun Stribling are seen as exciting additions to a corps that finally has Ricky Pearsall, Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins and Demarcus Robinson at full health.

Evans headlines that group, and Purdy's been mesmerized to learn how Evans developed on-field rapport in Tampa Bay with Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield.

Purdy recited one of their recent conversations about a red zone play as:

"I'm like, ‘Dude, on film, I saw you run this one route; we have a similar concept. What are you thinking?' He goes, ‘Actually it's not that concept. I had a choice to go around the DB a certain way, and Tom knew to put the ball there, and that's something we talked and worked through.' I was, ‘Oh shoot.' So that's stuff we're going to have to talk through and work through, but I'm so excited, because this guy sees the game like a quarterback does."

Evans, 32, is apparently meshing well with only his second NFL franchise.

"In the locker room, Mike is obviously a Hall of Fame receiver, but he's a bro. It's all of us," Purdy said. "He's in the locker room chatting it up, making jokes with guys. He's just a real dude. He's a father, bouncing back and forth home to Texas to coach his daughter's basketball team. He's just a real dude."

And what does Purdy think of Stribling, the 49ers' first draft pick and the 33rd overall selection?

"Stribling is a guy that has a lot of raw talent," Purdy said. "Throwing routes on air to him, getting a feel for how he moves and his speed. Once we get him in the playbook a lot and get reps with each other, I feel he's a guy that's going to come in and make an impact."

GUEST OF HONOR

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is this year's recipient of the Dwight Clark Award, just ahead of his 10th season on the 49ers and 14th in the NFL. Former 49ers offensive lineman Randy Cross presented Juszcyzk with the award.

"He's been around a long time. But he's the man," Purdy said. "Talk about glue guys and stuff, but really, the way he speaks to the team, shows up, and he's here year-round around guys in Phase 1 when it's not mandatory, in like Year 15.

"More than that is the way he lays down his life for his teammates and family, his community. He has a road dedicated to him. I was driving, ‘That's Kyle Juszczyk road!' Ask him about that."

A couple of years ago, an Adopt-A-Highway sign appeared on Highway 101 near Levi's Stadium, signifying the "Kyle ‘Juice' Juszczyk" stretch, as reportedly sponsored by a friend.

KITTLE UPDATE

George Kittle’s ever-eventful offseason has been encouraging, aside from him rescuing his wife from a spider or cheering courtside for the Oklahoma City Thunder (as a former Oklahoma high school star). Kittle is progressing well from his Achilles repair four months ago. “George is going to do everything he can to play for the Faithful and at Levi's,” Purdy said. “Knowing George, I wouldn't doubt (a Week 1 debut) but I'm not going to publicly say that.”
