Vote now: Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from May 11-16.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you'd like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Essence Anderson-Brown, James Logan track and field: The senior clocked a time of 11.53 in the 100 meters at the NCS Bayshore Track and Field Championships, breaking the meet record. She also won the 200 meters with a time of 24.11 and is ranked top 25 in California in both events.

Kat Dykes, Sacred Heart Prep lacrosse: Dykes led SHP with four goals as the Gators defeated St. Ignatius 10-7 to win the CCS Division I championship and finished off a 20-0 season.

Natalie Dymmel, Palo Alto lacrosse: The senior captain led Paly with four goals as the Vikings beat Stevenson 10-9 to win the CCS Division II championship.

Julia Lambert, Alameda softball: Lambert contributed at the plate and in the circle as Alameda beat Encinal 11-1 in the WACC Foothill tournament. She pitched a five-inning complete game with one run allowed on five runs with three strikeouts against two walks and went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI.

Libby Lyon, Los Altos gymnastics: Lyon compiled an all-around score of 38.55 at the SCVAL meet, finishing as the individual silver medalist and leading Los Altos to the team championship. She earned individual event titles on vault (9.8) and bars (9.8), and finished fourth on floor (9.5) and sixth on beam (9.45), earning all-league honors in each event.

Ava Norquist, Los Gatos softball:The junior threw a seven-inning no-hitter in a league win over Mountain View. She struck out 11 batters with one walk and threw 79 pitches, 62 strikes. She also went 1 for 3 at the plate. She added two hits and an RBI in a win over Homestead, going six innings without allowing an earned run in the circle.

McKinley Scobie, Foothill swimming and diving:Scobie won the 200 freestyle at the CIF state championships, posting a time of 1:47.42 to finish first.

Tyler Scott, Wilcox softball: The senior pitched a five-inning no-hitter and was a dropped third strike shy of a perfect game as Wilcox beat Los Altos 12-0. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run and six RBIs. Against Saratoga, she went 3 for 4 at the plate with three singles and three RBIs.

Khanh Seaton, Castro Valley swimming and diving: Seton set a meet record at the CIF state championships, topping the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.22.

Madison Toung, MacDonald swimming and diving: The sophomore competed at the CIF diving state championships last weekend in Clovis, placing 14th as the first athlete in school history to qualify for a state championship.

Kelsey Zhang, Saratoga swimming and diving: Zhang set a meet record in the 100 butterfly at the CIF state championships, clocking a time of 51.83. She also won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:58.07.
