Bay Area swimmers break records at CIF state meet as Campolindo girls win team competition
Bay Area athletes were well represented at the CIF state swimming championships on Saturday at Clovis West High outside of Fresno, and they made their presence felt in the pool all day long.
Swimmers from the Bay Area News Group's coverage area won 12 events at the state meet, setting four meet records in the process.
Leading the way in the relays was Valley Christian's foursome of Garic Shao, Jack Cameron, Robert White III and Yury Kuzmenko, which finished first with a record-setting time of 1:28.8 in the 200-yard boys medley relay.
In the individual events, Castro Valley's Khanh Seaton set a meet record with her 22.22-second gold-medal finish in the girls 50-yard freestyle.
Saratoga's Kelsey Zhang reset the meet record with her 51.83 in the girls 100 butterfly, and Archbishop Mitty's Shareef Elaydi set a new bar in the 100 breaststroke by clocking a time of 51.85.
Other gold medalists included Foothill's McKinley Scobie in the girls 200 free (1:47.42), The King's Academy's Nathan Foucu in the boys 200 free (1:34.38), Zhang in the girls 200 individual medley (1:58.07) and Dougherty Valley's Tim Wu in the boys 200 IM (1:44.83) and 100 backstroke (47.17).
Valley Christian won the 200 free relay as well, with Micah Hernandez, Jack Cameron, Kaden Cochran and Kuzmenko topping the field with a time of 1:21.69.
Bay Area swim teams also fared well in the team points competition. Campolindo led all girls teams with 149 points, followed closely by Mitty in second with 148. San Ramon Valley and Mountain View tied for fourth with 128.
Santa Margarita won the boys team title with 156.5 points and Northwood placed second with 154. Valley Christian took third with 145 points, Mitty compiled 143 to take fourth and Amador Valley had 131 to finish fifth.
