Alphonso Davies Suffers New Injury Ahead of World Cup
Bayern Munich has confirmed that Alphonso Davies suffered a left hamstring injury during the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
This news represents a significant blow for both club and country, as the defender is expected to be sidelined for four to five weeks.
Alphonso Davies Could Miss World Cup After Latest Injury Setback
With Canada's World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina scheduled for June 12 in Toronto, Davies is now in a serious race against time to be fit for the tournament.
The incident occurred in the 86th minute of Bayern's 1-1 draw, which resulted in a 6-5 aggregate loss for the German side. Medical scans later revealed a torn muscle fiber in his left leg.
As a result, Davies will miss the remainder of the Bundesliga season and the DFB-Pokal final on May 23.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed the news during the press conference ahead of the VfL-Wolfsburg match.
"Alphonso Davies is out tomorrow. Based on the scans, we'll see how long he's out for. It's a muscular issue."
Addressing the timeline on the Canadian's return, Kompany said, "We will see how long he is out when we have seen the images."
This latest setback marks the third time Davies has been sidelined this season. He missed the opening months of the campaign with a cruciate ligament tear and dealt with separate hamstring issues as recently as March.
His status for the World Cup remains highly uncertain, and Canada Soccer is reportedly collaborating with Bayern's medical staff to manage his rehabilitation.
Bayern Munich is currently navigating several other fitness concerns alongside the major blow to Alphonso Davies. As the club moves into the final weeks of the season and prepares for the DFB-Pokal final, the medical staff is working to manage multiple key absences which also include Serge Gnabry.
Kompany confirmed that the German winger remains unavailable for selection.
