JSerra softball tops Orange Lutheran again for share of first place

JSerra’s softball team continued its surge Friday to move into a tie for first place in the Trinity League.

Liliana Escobar pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and freshman center fielder Magenta De Arte had a two-run double in the third inning to lead the host Lions to a 3-1 win against Orange Lutheran.

Escobar, The Register’s reigning Orange County pitcher of the year, beat Orange Lutheran for the second time in 11 days to help the Lions extend their league winning streak to four games.

On April 21, the Florida signee allowed six hits with 11 strikeouts in a 4-2 win at Orange Lutheran.

Catcher Annabel Raftery had two doubles to help pace JSerra’s offense.

JSerra is 20-7 overall and 5-3 in the Trinity League. The Lions, who are seeking their first league title, close the Trinity against Mater Dei on Tuesday.

Cate Medvitz drove in Orange Lutheran’s run in the sixth to cap the scoring.

The Lancers slipped to 18-8 overall and 5-3 in league. The reigning Trinity League champion finishes league against Santa Margarita on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Mater Dei edged Santa Margarita 2-1. Both teams are 3-5 in league.
