Baseball roundup: Yorba Linda clinches share of title; JSerra sweeps Santa Margarita
Yorba Linda baseball clinched at least a share of the North Hills League championship by beating Sonora 4-1 on Friday at Sonora High.
The Mustangs stole six bases and Kenji Shirley allowed just one hit in 5 1/3 innings with one unearned run allowed and five strikeouts. Dylan Plasch pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the save and allowed just one hit.
Michael Talbott had two hits with two stolen bases and one RBI for Yorba Linda (18-7-1, 8-2). Vaughn Sharp drove in a run and stole two bases. Andrew Churney had two hits with a RBI and Nathan Schneider had two hits with a stolen base.
Seth Olson had a double for Sonora (15-10, 6-4) and Isaiah Rodriguez had a hit.
There is still a possibility of a three-way tie for the league championship with all three of the top teams having two league games remaining. Yorba Linda has two games against Sunny Hills (6-4 in league) next week and Sonora has two games against Esperanza.
If Sunny Hills wins both games against Yorba Linda, the Lancers will earn a tie for the league championship. If Sunny Hills wins both of its games and Sonora beats Esperanza twice next week, there would be a three-way tie for the league title.

In the Trinity League:
JSerra 9, Santa Margarita 6: JSerra completed a three-game sweep of Santa Margarita to move into fifth place in the league standings.
Oregon State signee Blake Bowen hit a solo home run for JSerra (11-17, 5-10). Bowen has nine home runs on the season and hit a home run in all three games of the series. Shane D'Arcy went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Joey Koenig went 2 for 3 with three RBIs Jax Janeski pitched four innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
Warren Wulfemeyer went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Santa Margarita (14-13, 4-11) and Tyler George drove in two runs. Andre Owens went 2 for 3 with a RBI and Vincent Milo had a double with a RBI.
In the Sunset League:
Corona del Mar 6, Edison 5: Corona del Mar scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning on a passed ball to beat Edison.
Stevie Jones pitched a complete game, allowed no earned runs and had five strikeouts for Corona del Mar (14-13, 7-11). JJ Haley went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Jacob Olson went 3 for 3 with a RBI and Charlie Kaster added a double with a run scored.
Cody Kruis went 3 for 3 with a RBI for Edison (12-16, 8-10) and Parker Ross went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI. Kobe Kee went 1 for 2 with a RBI and Hayden Cato added a double.
Edison finishes the regular season tied with Marina for third place in the league standings. Both teams receive an automatic berth in the CIF-SS playoffs.
In the Empire League:
Costa Mesa 7, Laguna Hills 2: Costa Mesa clinched its third consecutive league championship and its first Empire League championship by hitting two home runs against Laguna Hills.
Grady Jackson went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for Costa Mesa (20-6, 9-3). Ben Quintero went 2 for 4 with a RBI and Wylan Rottschafer had a double with two walks. Will Morales allowed one run in six innings with seven strikeouts.
Chris Cooke went 2 for 3 with a RBI for Laguna Hills (12-13, 4-7) and Owen Rose drove in a run.
In the Sea View League:
Beckman 10, San Juan Hills 6: Beckman clinched second place with a win over San Juan Hills on the road.
Gus Powell had a triple with three RBIs and two walks for Beckman (17-9-1, 6-6). Kai Carney went 3 for 4 with three stolen bases and a RBI. Kavin Patel went 1-5 with two RBIs and Sean Franco added a double.
Hudson Doss had a home run with two RBIs for San Juan Hills (16-12, 6-6). Noah Wisneski went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI and Brodie Corpuz drove in a run. The Stallions will be the third place representative from the league in the playoffs.
In the Freeway League:
Canyon 6, Brea Olinda 2: Canyon kept its league championship hopes alive by beating Brea Olinda on the road.
Blake Lau had a three-run home run for Canyon (14-12, 7-3) in the seventh inning and also doubled. Cam Goetz had a double with a RBI and John Somerndike added two hits. Nathan Fuzzard had nine strikeouts in five innings with two runs allowed.
Canyon plays a two-game series against first place El Modena next week. The Comanches can win the league championship if they beat El Modena in both games.
In the Crestview League:
La Habra 6, Foothill 2: La Habra stayed in the race for third place in the league standings by beating Foothill.
David Quezada and Anthony Escamilla each went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI for La Habra (11-14-1, 3-7). Fernado Alatorre and Bobby Brooks each had hits with RBIs and Nico DeCorte drove in a run.
Brayden Bianchi hit a home run for Foothill (16-10, 4-6) and Patrick Petrossi had a hit with a RBI.
Villa Park 2, Cypress 0: Logan Hoppie pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for Villa Park in a win over Cypress.
Justin Lopez had a home run for Villa Park (17-8-1, 6-4) and Dominic Gutierrez drove in a run.
Gary Hennessey had a hit with a stolen base for Cypress (20-6, 10-2). Tate Belfanti allowed one run in 3⅓ innings with three strikeouts.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Irvine 8, Laguna Beach 6: Irvine clinched the second-place spot in the league standings with a win over Laguna Beach.
Owen Song went 3 for 5 with four stolen bases and two RBIs for Irvine (14-12, 11-3). Jack Dressendorfer went 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base. Brody LaGrass went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and a RBI and Smith Spivey went 1 for 3 with a double, a stolen base and a RBI.
Paz went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for Laguna Beach (16-10, 9-5). Parker Moore went 2 for 4 with a steal and two RBIs. The Breakers finished in third place in the league standings.
Portola 1, University 0: Keyan Park pitched a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts for Portola.
Park also drove in the lone run of the game for Portola (8-11, 7-7). Nico Atencio went 2 for 3 with two stolen bases.
Andrew Shean allowed no earned runs in six innings with nine strikeouts for University (6-17, 4-10).
Northwood 8, St. Margaret's 1: Northwood clinched fourth place and an automatic playoff spot by beating St. Margaret's.
Gabriel Ibasitas allowed no earned runs in four innings with five strikeouts for Northwood (13-15, 8-6) and went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Kai Tsuneshige went 2 for 3 with a triple and a RBI and Garrett Laurent went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.
