Harbor beach volleyball closes regular season with sweep of Soquel | Local Roundup

Harbor High's beach volleyball team swept visiting Soquel 5-0 in its Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League finale and senior day on Wednesday.

Seniors Coco Castro and Marina Tucker paced the Pirates (8-2, 3-2) with a 21-10, 21-17 win at No. 3 pairs.

Junior Liberty Niesen and sophomore Lise Corstorphine's 21-18, 22-20 won on the No. 1 court.

Harbor also earned wins from Dylan Schutz and Elise Dawson, Gianna Fanara and Swan Houssin and Maisie McAlister and Kenzie Simon.

Harbor's top three pairs compete in the SCCAL Pairs Tournament at Main Beach on May 7 and 8.

High school baseball

At San Lorenzo Valley 7, Watsonville 2: Sean Johnson had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice for the Cougars in their nonleague win on Wednesday.

Ashton Rush scored twice for the Cougars (4-17). Senior Gabe Machado and Porter Boyd each had a hit and run scored. Machado also had one RBI. Gus Nunns had one RBI and scored a run.

Mathew Silva had a hit and one RBI for the Wildcatz (3-12). Chris Sigala had a hit and scored a run.

SLV plays at Scotts Valley on Friday at 4 p.m. Watsonville hosts King City on Monday at 5 p.m.

At St. Francis 4, Monterey 2: The Sharks scored three runs in the first inning and a run in the second to jump ahead 4-0 and held on to win their PCAL Gabilan Division game Wednesday.

Sophomore Jacob Fonseca had two hits and scored twice for the Sharks (6-15-1, 6-10). Sophomore Noah Magana drove in a pair of runs. Juniors Max Madrigal and Nicky Fantl each had a hit and one RBI. Fantl also scored a run.

Senior Tyson Beyah had three hits and one RBI for the Toreadores (11-10, 9-7).

St. Francis plays at Soledad (7-14-1, 2-14) on Friday at 4 p.m.

At Carmel 19, MVC 0; 5 inn.: Senior Chase Bauen and sophomore Jake Moro accounted for the Mustangs' two hits in their PCAL Gabilan Division loss Wednesday.

Stanford committed senior Matt Maxon smacked his 10th home run of the season for the division leading Padres (15-6, 14-2) and classmate Sean Carr also homered, his second.

Carr finished with two hits, four RBI, and scored three runs. Maxon had two hits, two RBI, and scored three runs. Sophomore Kenny Sanchez had four hits, two RBI, and scored twice.

MVC (6-15, 3-13) plays at Palma (15-7, 12-4) in Salinas on Friday at 4 p.m.

High school softball

At St. Francis 10, Anzar 1: Sharks freshman Valerie Ballesteros struck out 16 batters and scattered seven hits in her complete-game win in PCAL Santa Lucia Division action on Wednesday.

Bella Vargas had four hits, two RBI, and scored twice for the Sharks (9-4, 2-2). Sophia Madrigal had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run. Nevaeh Padilla and Talia Moakler each had two hits and scored a run. Padilla also drove in a run.

St. Francis plays at Anzar (0-6, 0-4) on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

At Santa Catalina 17, Pajaro Valley 7; 5 inn.: Hemeria Delatorre two hits, including her 14th double of the season, one RBI, and scored a run for the Grizzlies in their PCAL Santa Lucia Division loss Wednesday.

Freshman Myah Diggs Lozano had two RBI for the Grizzlies (8-12, 7-5), and senior Sophia Garcia and freshman Anabell Ybarra each scored twice.

Hope Yoshiyama had three hits, including a double and triple, four RBI, and scored twice for the Cougars (5-5, 3-3). Adele Ramirez had three hits, three RBI, and scored twice, and Isabella Jodlowski doubled, tripled, and scored five times.

Yoshiyama earned the complete-game win, and Delatorre took the complete-game loss.

Pajaro Valley plays at St. Francis (9-4, 2-2) on May 6 at 4:30 p.m.

Rancho San Juan 17, at MVC 4; 6 inn.: Gianna Calomeni had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run for the Mustangs in their PCAL Cypress Division loss Wednesday.

Harper Ealy Whitby had two hits for the Mustangs (9-12, 4-7). Ava Alvarado had a hit and one RBI, and Addison Boles and Sophia Lopez each had a hit and run scored.

Junior Bella Hanson had two hits, four RBI, and scored twice for the Trailblazers (9-6-1, 8-3), who stole 10 bases. Senior Delylah Magdeleno had two hits, three RBI, and scored three runs.

Freshman Audrina Zapata earned the complete-game win with 10 strikeouts. Addison Silva pitched two innings and took the loss.

MVC hosts Greenfield (3-12, 3-8) on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Boys lacrosse

At Salinas 7, MVC 3: The Mustangs lost to the Cowboys in PCAL Mission Division action Wednesday.

MVC hosts Santa Cruz on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Hollister 9, at Santa Cruz 4: The Cardinals lost to the Haybalers in the teams' PCAL Mission Division game Wednesday.

Santa Cruz plays at MVC on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
