Steelers Fans Calling For Aaron Rodgers To Retire After Drew Allar Pick
With Aaron Rodgers still unsure if he'll retire, the Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to take a chance on a potential-packed quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
On Friday night, the Steelers selected Penn State quarterback Drew Allar with the 76th overall pick. He was viewed as an intriguing prospect at the end of the 2024 season since he completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,327 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Unfortunately, an ankle injury cut his 2025 season short.
Despite being banged up for the majority of the fall, Allar never lost his confidence during the pre-draft process.
"I'm going to be a better version of myself out of this," Allar said. "The doctors said it's going to be stronger than before because of the type of surgery they did. It won't prohibit me from anything in the future or need to get it redone. A lot of guys have done it and come back. I'll be able to make a full recovery and not have anything to think about when I come back."
Allar now has the chance to compete in a quarterback room that features Will Howard and Mason Rudolph. Who knows? He might also get to learn from a four-time MVP.
Fans are excited about Allar's future in Pittsburgh.
While some Pittsburgh fans like Allar's potential, they're unsure if he was worth a Day 2 pick.
You've also got a portion of Pittsburgh's fan base calling for Rodgers to retire now that Allar is on the depth chart.
"Aaron Rodgers get ready to learn retirement buddy," one fan wrote.
"Sorry guys I been a Will Howard fan but been an Allar fan since day 1 so I'm backing him to be Aaron Rodgers successor," a second fan said.
"Aaron Rodgers just got replaced," another fan declared.
"Drew Allar to Steelers: Pittsburgh drafts a 'future' QB who won't vie for snaps this year. So Aaron Rodgers has a clear path to being the starter all season. This is what he was waiting for. Watch him announce he's returning to the NFL next week," a social media user commented.
At the end of the day, the Steelers don't have an established quarterback for the 2026 season and beyond. Even if Rodgers re-signs for this fall, he's nothing more than a placeholder at the position.
On the bright side, Allar at least gives Steelers fans a glimmer of hope.
