SF Giants place hot-hitting catcher on injured list with elbow issue

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Giants will have to do without one of their hottest hitters for their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers and beyond as they placed catcher Daniel Susac on the 10-day injured list with right elbow neuritis.

Eric Haase was selected from Triple-A Sacramento to take Susac's place on the active roster. Right-hander José Buttó was transferred to the 60-day injured list to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Haase.

The Giants said Susac is expected to miss the next two to three weeks, as his injury likely means more at-bats for Patrick Bailey, who has hit just .151 with a .361 OPS in 53 at-bats so far this season.

Susac, though, was hitting .478 with a 1.152 OPS after his first 24 MLB plate appearances through the first three-plus weeks of the season.

The Susac transaction is retroactive to April 20.

The Giants (9-13) entered Tuesday in fourth place in the National League West, seven games back of the first-place Dodgers. The three-game series at Oracle Park begins a six-game homestand for the Giants, who entered this week having won three of their last eight games under first-year manager Tony Vitello.
