Red Sox Ace Garret Crochet Sends Message as Concern Grows
The Boston Red Sox suffered a second straight loss to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, dropping them to 8-13 on the season. Alex Cora's men won the first of the four-game series 1-0, but Detroit beat them in their second meeting 4-1 before securing a 6-2 victory in their third showdown.
Boston has largely struggled to start the season. In fact, they won just two games in their first 10 outings before showing some improvement over the past two weeks. Still, their pitching issues are pretty clear.
The Red Sox have an average ERA of 4.35 among their pitching staff. The biggest concern for the team has been ace Garrett Crochet, who was a Cy Young contender in 2025. This 2026, however, Crochet has a 7.88 ERA over five starts.
During their latest MLB game against the Tigers, Crochet gave up five runs in five innings. He also allowed two homers and two walks in the loss.
The performance followed Crochet's worst start of his career against the Minnesota Twins last Monday. During that game, the 26-year-old pitcher allowed 11 runs (10 earned) while tallying only five outs.
Crochet didn't hide his frustration amid his poor run of form. While he certainly did better against the Tigers, the fact remains that they lost, and he had a big role in that result.
"It sucks that I feel like I am moving in the right direction, and I also happened to lose the game for us," Crochet told reporters postgame on Sunday, per NESN.

Crochet's play will certainly be key for the Red Sox if they want to turn the season around. So far, however, the Boston faithful are growing more and more concerned about his performance.
"Red Sox being [expletive] is one thing but I want the Garrett Crochet back. He was better this afternoon but still not great," a commenter wrote after the latest Red Sox-Tigers game at Fenway Park. Another one said, "The Red Sox are in trouble if Garrett Crochet's troubles continue."
"What's going on with Garrett crochet," a concerned follower asked.
A fourth poster stated, "If the Red Sox are going to do anything in 2026, among fixing a multitude of issues currently, they need Garrett Crochet to be at his best. The last two starts have been very rough. Without Crochet, this team isn't much. It starts with Crochet and hopefully he can fix this ASAP."
"I don't want the downfall of Garrett Crochet to be studied, it's hurting my feelings," a disappointed fan added.
