All-Bay Area News Group girls soccer team

Player of the year

Abby Forsgren, Bishop O'Dowd, F, senior

Co-captain led the Dragons in scoring on their run to the inaugural CIF Division I state championship game, finishing with 37 goals and 30 assists. Memphis signee was the West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division player of the year. Read the full story here.

Penelope Correa, St. Francis, M/F, senior

WCAL forward of the year paced Lancers with 15 goals and six assists as St. Francis reached the CCS Division I championship game and the NorCal Division I quarterfinals. St. Mary's signee was also named first-team all-league.

Ashley Dodson, San Ramon Valley, D, junior

Boston College commit was named an East Bay Athletic League first-teamer and helped SRV win the CIF Division II state championship. SRV conceded zero goals in the championship game and its NorCal title game win over Mitty.

Chloe Keating, Bishop O'Dowd, F, senior

Senior stalwart scored 17 goals and added 12 assists, helping lead the way as a dynamic offensive producer for the Dragons. UC Davis signee was a WACC Foothill first-teamer.

Caitlin Motil, St. Francis, D, senior

Rock-solid center back captained St. Francis team that finished runner-up in CCS Division I championship game and won West Catholic Athletic League title. Cal Baptist signee was named WCAL defender and player of the year after locking down 19 clean sheets and scoring six goals with three assists.

Abby Nelson, Los Gatos, F, junior

Underclass sensation and Cal commit scored 41 goals and added 14 assists, leading Wildcats to the CCS Division I championship. Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division player of the year.

Allison Park, Leland, M, junior

Illinois commit was named the most valuable player of the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mt. Hamilton Division. Led the Chargers to a 13-3-3 record and second-place finish in the BVAL's top flight.

Ana Pintard, Bishop O'Dowd, D, sophomore

Defensive anchor buttressed O'Dowd's defense to a stunning scoreless run that lasted nearly the entire season at center back. Named a WACC Foothill first-teamer.

Madeline Roder, Carondelet, M, senior

Midfielder anchored the Cougars’ run to the NCS Division I title game and NorCal Division I playoffs. University of San Diego signee scored six goals and dished one assist while winning East Bay Athletic League defensive player of the year.

Hannah Shank, Las Lomas, M, sophomore

Diablo Athletic League offensive most valuable player scored 17 goals and added 23 assists for Las Lomas team that finished runner-up in NCS Division I and made the NorCal Division I quarterfinals.

Elle Sloan, Carondelet, F, senior

Houston signee was named the East Bay Athletic League offensive player of the year. Finished with 14 goals and two assists, including both goals in the Cougars' 3-2 overtime loss to O'Dowd in the NCS Division I championship game.

Emma Henzi, San Ramon Valley, junior

Cal commit made multiple huge saves down the stretch of the season, none bigger than her extra-time punch over the crossbar in SRV's win over Westlake in the CIF Division II championship game that set up Morgan Van Puffelen's winning goal moments later.

Layla Tucakovic, Archbishop Mitty, junior

WCAL goalkeeper of the year and USC commit won back-to-back penalty shootouts in the NorCal playoffs to help Mitty reach the Division II title game. Compiled 53 saves in 17 games played with a goals-against average of 1.846.

Field players

Ariel Hester, Carondelet, D, junior

Back-line standout chipped in a goal and two assists while holding down the fort defensively for the NCS Division I runners-up.

Mercy Karson, Carondelet, D, sophomore

United States youth national team call-up helped anchor the Cougars' back line while chipping in four goals and 12 assists. EBAL first-teamer was the lone sophomore to make the top league squad.

Sophie McCarthy, St. Francis, M, junior

First-team all-WCAL player controlled the midfield for St. Francis team that reached CCS Division I championship game.

Ale Munneke, Los Gatos, F, senior

Stanford commit was a prolific running mate for teammate Abby Nelson with 17 goals and 18 assists. Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division first-teamer.

Kylee Po, Sacred Heart Cathedral, M, senior

Senior midfielder scored 14 goals and added six assists as the Fightin' Irish reached the CCS Division II championship game, losing to Salinas. WCAL midfielder of the year.

Laila Rocha, Archbishop Mitty, D, senior

WCAL first-teamer controlled the back line for Mitty team that reached CCS Division I semifinals and NorCal Division II championship game. Added two goals and two assists.

Mia Sieminski, Berkeley, M, senior

Had 14 goals and nine assists to lead the Yellowjackets to the NCS Division I Round of 16, where they lost to eventual champion San Ramon Valley. WACC Foothill first-teamer.

Taylor Stevens, Miramonte, D, senior

Diablo Athletic League defensive most valuable player led the Matadors to a 10-5-2 record and an appearance in the NCS Division I quarterfinals.

Morgan Van Puffelen, San Ramon Valley, F, freshman

Freshman phenom scored the winning goals in SRV's NorCal and state Division II championship games, capping a dream season for the Wolves with a state title clinched on a golden goal.

Katelyn Wong, Bishop O'Dowd, D, sophomore

Reliable defensive midfielder paired with Pintard to lead O’Dowd to historic scoreless streak. WACC Foothill first-teamer also scored two goals and dished two assists.

Senior backstop came up huge for the Wildcats in the CCS Division I championship game, stopping one penalty shot and guessing right while watching the clincher go wide as Los Gatos beat St. Francis in penalty kicks. Hawaii signee.

Loyola Marymount signee finished second in the CCS with 177 saves, according to MaxPreps. Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division most valuable goalkeeper.

In his third year in charge at the Oakland school, Savvides truly elevated O'Dowd into the Bay Area's elite. One year after they were a missed penalty kick away from reaching the CIF NorCal Division I championship, the Dragons finished the job this time around, winning the NorCal D-I title and reaching the inaugural Division I state championship game.
