Dolphins Take Firm Stance on De'Von Achane Amid Contract Uncertainty

New Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan identified running back De’Von Achane as one of the franchise’s “pillars” at the NFL‘s annual league meeting in March, saying it’s a “priority” for the organization to reach a contract extension agreement with the offensive superstar.

Achane, who joined the Dolphins as the No. 84 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, is entering the final year of his rookie deal with Miami. Earlier this month, the 24-year-old running back was absent from the team’s voluntary OTAs as he and the franchise continue negotiations.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Sullivan confirmed that Achane is unable.

"He's not available for trade," Sullivan said, via The Athletic. "Things are going good. We've had some positive conversations over the last couple of days, trending in the right direction."

"He's obviously very important to what we're doing," the GM continued. "It's all part of it. It's part of professional sports. We'll get where we need to be, one way or the other, but yeah, things are trending in the right direction."

Last month, the Dolphins traded star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos - indicating a franchise reset. That said, the franchise is clearly unwilling to let go of Achane.

Through 16 games in his third NFL season, Achane recorded a career-high 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns on 238 carriers - leading the NFL with 5.7 yards per attempt. As a dynamic receiving weapon out of the backfield, he also reeled in 67 catches for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

Achane earned his first career Pro Bowl selection behind these impressive numbers.
