Taxes shouldn’t fund free market failures

I read the May 19 letter of Connie Young. She doesn’t understand that the carbon tax to subsidize alternative energy such as solar and wind take choice out of our hands. Once the government taxes that money away from us, our choice is taken away.

Canada is going down this road and many have lost their jobs. Rachel Notley is one of the main people behind this, and it will cost the average Canadian $470 per year in increased energy costs. The effect on communities which produce energy in Canada has already been disastrous, and we have candidates in the United States vowing to increase carbon taxes.

Taxes used wastefully are destructive. This waste includes funding things which will not survive in the free market. I have to wonder about people such as Ms. Young. They don’t understand basic economics.

I have to wonder about the editorial board at The Bee, they often support higher taxes, rarely mentioning the need for governmental accountability. The board criticizes Proposition 13 frequently, which protects the taxpayer. Government needs to live within a budget. Can Fresno Bee employees afford an increase in property tax?
