Cyclists need to quit being self-righteous
Zara Thomas gets sanctimonious in her diatribe against motorists and her defense of bicycle riders (March 27). She rails on the “brainless twits who don’t have the good sense God gave sheep to move over and share the road.”
She ignores that so many “brainless twits” are bike riders who frequently ride head-on into oncoming traffic, apparently daring cars to hit them. She says she has to stifle the urge to mow them down; oh, sure she’ll mow down a motor home or a pickup with her Schwinn. Good luck with that. Thank the Lord for emergency rooms.
For far too long, bicyclists have not had to buy insurance, pay California’s outrageous DMV fees, or even have a driver’s license. Yet if they collide with a car and are at fault, the motorist inevitably gets the citation, must repair his own car, and suffers the resulting DMV, police and insurance hassle and expense.
If the bicycle community wants equality and parity with those of us who have enough sense not to entrust our lives to two skinny wheels, they should step up to the plate, assume responsibility for the proper use of their toys, and quit being self-righteous.
