Don’t let Henry off the hook

Judging from an article in The Bee, the city of Fresno went from pretending that it was serious about code enforcement to business as usual by letting another slumlord walk away from his responsibilities in just a matter of weeks.

How could the city contemplate allowing property owner Chris Henry to walk away without paying $300,00 in fines? These are dollars that can be used to improve neighborhoods.

There are more places like his Summerset Village complex in Fresno. Substandard living conditions plague our city and affect the health of our community and neighborhoods in more ways than one. Hold Mr. Henry accountable and truly send a clear message that the city will enforce healthy housing standards and collect fines when property owners fail to meet their responsibilities.

Only then will we see a change. Let’s create a healthy Fresno with safe, affordable housing.
