Congress: vote on drought aid

Recently we received news that negotiations between the U.S. House and Senate had come to a close in regards to passing drought legislation before the end of this calendar year.

In what is now the fourth year of a devastating drought, which has seen countless acres of farmland fallowed, businesses go under and families displaced, it is time for our U.S. senators to work with our House delegation in order to come to an agreement that will produce meaningful and impactful legislation.

In many other parts of California, the word “drought” is something that is a part of the evening newscast. In Fresno, that word is something that is not only seen but felt through both the economic and human impact that it has made on our neighbors and businesses. California, the nation and world depend on the products that come from the Central Valley.

In order for this region to stay competitive, we need our U.S. senators to work together with our delegation in the House to pass legislation that will ensure that our Valley’s needs are addressed.
