Melyssa Ayala doesn’t speak much, but her parents and teacher at Malaga Elementary in Fresno say the 11-year-old’s dedication to academics and helping those in need resonates much louder than any speech.
Described by her teacher, Teresa Phrachanhsay, as “a very energetic and attentive child,” Lillian Faith Luna balances academic success with victory on the judo mat as a member of the Fresno and Fowler judo clubs. She received her most recent medal May 9 for placing second in her division at the California State Judo Championships in Los Angeles County, Nicole Harada of Taishi Judo Club in Carson said.
At just 7 years old, first-grader Benjamin Alan Raber has already undergone six major surgeries. Benjamin has spina bifida, and currently uses a walker and a wheelchair to help him stay mobile, his mother, Julee Raber said.
