Visalia homeowner shoots intruder in backyard
Visalia police said a homeowner opened fire on an intruder in his backyard Friday morning and shot him.
The male victim was hit by a single bullet and suffered non-lethal injuries, police said. His name and age were not released.
About 9:30 a.m., police received several phone calls about an injured man in the street in the area of Northeast Fifth Avenue and Grape Street.
When officers arrived, he was conscious and able to communicate. An ambulance took him to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where he required surgery.
Police were uncertain where the shooting took place but soon narrowed it down to a home in the 200 block of Northeast Fifth Avenue.
The homeowner told police he confronted a man who entered the backyard without his permission and then fired his handgun.
The homeowner was interviewed and has been cooperating with investigators, police said. His name and age were not released.
No arrests were made and the investigation is continuing, police said.
