Sheriff: Huron police officer wounds man during arrest

A Huron police officer shot a man during an arrest Monday night in the city in southwestern Fresno County.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on Fifth Street in the center of town. The circumstances were unclear, but there was a struggle with a suspect who was combative, leading to the shooting.

The man was treated at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for injuries that weren’t life-threatening, the sheriff’s office reported.

The sheriff’s office said it was asked to investigate as routine policy. Sheriff’s detectives and officials from the county District Attorney’s Office were sent to Huron.

No members of the sheriff’s office or California Highway Patrol were involved in the shooting even though they had been called in to assist with the initial arrest, the sheriff’s office said.

No other information was immediately available about the case.
