A teenage gang member was arrested on a weapons charge in southwest Fresno on Sunday after a loaded handgun was found in his waistband, Fresno police said.
Just after 4 p.m., dispatchers received a call stating the teen was walking around a Fresno apartment complex holding a gun, Fresno police said. The teen allegedly pointed the gun at the apartment and then walked away.
Officers arrived quickly and identified the suspect as a 16-year-old from Fresno, police said. Officers attempted to confront him and the teen ran away, putting the gun in his waistband.
After a short pursuit, the teen was taken into custody without incident, police said. The gun was found to be a 9 mm handgun with nine live rounds and had its serial number removed.

The teen was on felony probation and an admitted gang member, police said. He was booked into Juvenile Hall on a probation violation and several weapons offenses, including possessing a firearm near a school and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
