A 40-year-old man was shot and critically wounded Wednesday after he got into an argument with a man half his age at a Walmart store in southeast Fresno, police said.

The suspected shooter, a 20-year-old man, was arrested after the shooting in the Walmart parking lot.

The 40-year-old Hispanic male victim was found about 12:45 p.m. with “multiple gunshot wounds to his torso area” in the southern section of the parking lot at 5125 Kings Canyon Road, Fresno police said.

He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The victim was in the Walmart store and got into a dispute with the 20-year-old Hispanic male assailant. Police said they didn’t know what the argument was about.

The conflict continued as they walked outside of the store and into the parking lot before the younger man pulled out a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. After the shooting, the suspect and a second person fled south from the parking lot, crossing Kings Canyon Road.

Officers soon found the suspect and his associate near Pilibos Park. He was arrested without incident. Detectives and other patrol officers are searching for the weapon. The suspect, who wasn’t identified, is in custody for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and will be booked at Fresno County Jail.
