Two men found shot to death near Reedley identified

The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has identified two men who were found shot to death in their idling car Saturday night near Reedley.

Dead are Alfonso Barbosa, 31, and Fray Martin Rodriguez, 29, both of Reedley. Rodriguez also had ties to the Sanger area, the sheriff’s office said.

A caller notified the sheriff’s dispatch about 7:30 p.m. that dark-colored Chevrolet Malibu was parked at an awkward angle with lights on and engine running near the intersection of East Dinuba and Crawford avenues, east of Reedley. Sheriff’s deputies who were sent to investigate found the two men inside who had been shot. Nothing was found in their car to indicate they had fired any guns, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s detectives believe the victims were targeted, and may be victims of gang violence, but investigators are still trying to determine a motive. Detectives are also trying to identify where the victims were before 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified.

These are the fourth and fifth homicides this year in Fresno County.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's detectives Mark Chapman or Hector Palma at (559) 600-8209 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7687).
