Fresno County sheriff’s detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify suspects in connection to a shooting in Calwa, southeast of Fresno, on Jan. 11 that killed a man and left his mother in critical condition.

Jesus Cantor, 52, was killed and 77-year-old Maria Socorro Lopez was injured in a shooting that occurred around 2 a.m. on the 2400 block of South 10th Street in Calwa as they were walking toward a store, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.

A man in a group pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at Castor and his mother at close range, Botti said. Castor died at the scene and his mother was rushed to the hospital.

Detectives continue to interview potential witnesses, Botti said. A motive has not been determined, but detectives can say it appears to have been a random shooting.

This is the first homicide in Fresno County in 2016.

Anyone with information on the case can contact sheriff’s detective Juan Galindo at 559-600-8215, detective Adam Maldonado at 559-600-8208 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP (7867).
