Two wounded in southeast Fresno drive-by shooting
Three people were shot at by a passing vehicle as they were walking down a southeast Fresno street Thursday night, police said.
Officers received multiple calls around 9 p.m. for help, for hearing nine shots fired and someone claiming to be a victim of a shooting in the area of Chestnut and Lane avenues, just south of Kings Canyon Road, Lt. Mindy Casto said.
Police quickly arrived on the 4800 block of East Lane Avenue and found two people with nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds and a third person who was unharmed, Casto said. They told officers they were shot at by a suspect in a possible silver 2-door Toyota car that drove by them as they were walking down a sidewalk on Lane.
It appears the victims were the targets of the shooting, but a few stray bullets went into nearby apartments, Casto said.
The two victims were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Casto said investigators from the Street Violence Unit were canvasing the area for evidence and eyewitnesses.
While there was no indication of the shooting being gang related, units from MAGEC were assisting investigators, Casto said.
