Officers arrest 2 Fresno men, seize guns, drugs
Fresno police seized marijuana, methamphetamine, two firearms and arrested two men at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of West Clinton Avenue Wednesday night, Sgt. Paul Cervantes said.
Cervantes said members of the MAGEC gang task force approached Brian Robinson, 28, as he was getting out of a car in the parking lot of the complex and noticed the smell of marijuana. Robinson reportedly admitted having the drug in his car and officers discovered two pounds of marijuana packaged for sale. At an apartment where Robinson said he lived, officers stopped another man, identified as Michael Mitchell, 31. Cervantes said Mitchell is a gang member and a search of his backpack uncovered nearly two pounds of methamphetamine and several firearm magazines, including a 50-round magazine that fits an SKS assault rifle. The resident of the unit told officers that neither man lived in the apartment, and officers then discovered that Robinson lived in a nearby unit, where they found more marijuana, along with a Ruger Mini-14 style rifle and a stolen Beretta handgun. Cervantes said officers are trying to find the source of the Ruger.
Robinson was booked on charges of marijuana sales and weapons violations. Mitchell was booked on charges of methamphetamine sales and being a felon in possession of ammunition.
