Pregnant woman shot in eye in road rage incident near Reedley

Fresno County sheriff’s deputies are searching for an SUV in connection with a Sunday night road rage shooting in which an 18-year-old pregnant woman was critically injured near Reedley.

Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said the incident took place about 10:30 p.m. in the 10800 block of South Englehart Avenue. The woman’s husband passed the suspect’s slow-moving SUV, which, a short time later, caught up with the victim’s vehicle. Someone fired at least one round, striking the woman in the left eye.

The woman’s husband turned around and drove into Tulare County, pulled off the road and asked a passerby to call 911. A Reedley police officer escorted the victim’s car to Adventist Medical Center in Reedley and the woman was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center.

The condition of the woman’s unborn child was not known, Botti said.

Deputies were looking for a light-brown, late-model SUV such as a GMC Yukon or a Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
