Farmersville police shoot, kill man after booking room fight

Farmersville police officers shot and killed a man in custody Saturday night while processing him on a parole violation, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the shooting.

Two Farmersville officers were processing the man in the department’s booking room just before 11 p.m. when he began fighting with the officers. The fight extended into nearby offices as the man struggled to grab one of the officer’s weapons.

The sheriff’s office said the officers fired shots at the man. When medical aid arrived, he was found dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said one of the officers has three years of law-enforcement experience and has been with the Farmersville Police Department for seven months. The other officer has been with the department for two years. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy. Their names were not released.

The sheriff’s office was asked to investigate the shooting. It released no details about the dead man on Sunday.

Farmersville Police Chief Mario Krstic told media Sunday that his officers first tried to subdue the man with a Taser but it had no effect. Krstic said the officers suffered minor injuries in the scuffle and were treated at the scene.
