Boy shoots himself during exchange of gunfire in central Fresno
A boy accidentally shot himself during an exchange of gunfire Friday in central Fresno, police said.
The shooting happened in the area of Fresno Street and McKinley Avenue shortly before 3 p.m.
The boy, 16, and another teenager were riding their bikes when a vehicle pulled up and started to shoot at them, police said.
The teens were not struck by the shots, but the boy shot himself when he tried to recover a firearm from his waistband, police said.
The boy was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a gunshot wound.
Police recovered a .22 caliber handgun at the home of the 16-year-old.
The incident appears to be gang-related, but it’s still under investigation, police said.
