Fresno murder suspect arrested at DUI checkpoint
Fresno police arrested a murder suspect after he jumped out of a moving van while avoiding a DUI checkpoint in south Fresno.
Justin Yang, 20, was booked into Fresno County Jail Saturday on several felony firearms possession charges and on a felony murder warrant.
Just past 10:30 p.m., a white Ford van failed to stop at a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint at East Jensen and South Cherry avenues. The van continued west on Jensen, then turned south on Ivy Avenue less than a mile away.
Yang tried to flee from the van while it was still in motion at the intersection of Ivy and East Dorothy avenues. He injured himself, then officers were able to detain him.
The van kept moving and was not found.
Police found a loaded .380 caliber handgun in Yang’s pants pocket.
At the checkpoint, 12 cars were impounded and four people were arrested for driving under the influence.
