A man killed Monday night in a shooting in southeast Fresno was identified by the Fresno County Coroner as Saleh Abdulfattah, 23, of Fresno.

Fresno police Lt. Phil Cooley said the incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. near the 2200 block of South Maple Avenue off East Florence Avenue. Officers responding to a shots-fired call found a man with several gunshot wounds inside his vehicle outside the Maple Grove Apartments.

Fresno police were still looking for suspects, who drove off in a dark-colored car, as of Tuesday evening.

Several bullet casings littered the roadway and the victim’s SUV had been punctured by bullets. Police believe Abdulfattah was originally shot while heading north on South Maple Avenue and continued driving until stopping along the curb outside the entrance of the apartment complex. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Responding officers tried to resuscitate Abdulfattah, who died at the scene. South Maple Avenue between Dwight Way and East Florence Avenue was closed immediately following the shooting.

Lt. Mark Salazar said the victim was part owner of a store on the corner of East Church and South Maple avenues. Police recovered drugs at the store last year after serving a search warrant in connection to another shooting.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
