Taft man sentenced in nationwide meth, heroin, cocaine trafficking
A Taft resident was sentenced Monday to ten years in prison for distributing methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.
Mario Alvarez-Muniz, also known as Cirilio Cardenas-Alvarez, 49, a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty in October of 2017. He admitted obtaining drugs from Guatemala and Mexico and transporting them to the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest. Alvarez-Muniz was arrested in Bakersfield after delivering two pounds of methamphetamine during an undercover transaction. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastrern District of California, McGregor W. Scott, said Alvarez-Muniz also orchestrated the shipment of six kilograms of heroin and 11 kilograms of cocaine to Chicago. Those drugs were also seized in Bakersfield.
Still at large is co-defendant Darrell Leon Jennings, 49. Anyone with information about Jennings is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 800-336-0102.
