Fresno County Jail inmate found dead, authorities try to figure out what happened
An inmate death in Fresno County Jail is being investigated by Fresno County sheriff’s homicide detectives and District Attorney’s Office investigators.
Agustin Angel Chavez, 21, was found Saturday in his jail cell unresponsive, and officers gave him emergency medical attention. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
A cause of death hasn’t been determined and toxicology tests are pending.
Chavez was booked into Fresno County Jail by the police on June 16 for assault with a deadly weapon, probation violation and possession of a dirk or dagger. He had no bail because of the felony probation violation, according to jail records.
