Body found in central Fresno irrigation canal identified

The body of the man who was found in an irrigation canal in central Fresno on Monday has been identified.

Jesse Lopez, Jr., 43, of Fresno, was discovered by a Fresno Irrigation District worker at Millbrook and McKinley avenues about 2 p.m. and alerted police.

The worker told police he did not see Lopez’s body there Sunday when he checked the grate.

Fresno police homicide detectives are investigating it as a “suspicious death.”

The Fresno Fire Department’s urban search and rescue dive team retrieved Lopez with assistance from a fire department ladder truck.
